Pari Center for New Learning

The Pari Center for New Learning (PCNL) provides an opportunity to explore ideas and develop new skills through seminars, workshops and courses. The Center also works in partnership with the Accademia dei Pari, a round-table drawn from the sciences, arts and humanities.

The hill-top village of Pari is located in Tuscany, Italy some 25 km south of Siena. It remains in a remarkable state of preservation and its 250 inhabitants continue their traditional ways, caring for the land and celebrating the seasons. Where better to reflect on the nature of our rapidly changing world, its values and the possibilities of the future than in an environment that stretches back through millennia? The Center maintains a close connection with Pari's village association (Sette Colli), supports Pari's economic development and helps to provide opportunities and stimulation for young people of the village.

From the 13th century until the High Renaissance human consciousness in Europe began to change. In part this was the result of the spread of books and the rediscovery of older texts, referred to as The New Learning. Something similar is happening today. New technologies are revolutionizing the way we work and communicate. The human genome project asks what it means to be human. And we are still attempting to assimilate the implications of ideas and technologies developed in the Twentieth Century.

In such a world we all have need of a place to pause and reflect on the nature of our rapidly changing world, its values and the possibilities the future might hold. Where better than the hill-top village of Pari, an environment that stretches back through millennia. Pari is located in Tuscany, Italy some 25 km south of Siena and its Center offers programs for those seeking new challenges and directions in their lives. It is a place where people can experience both tranquillity and stimulation as they complete a project, collaborate together, engage in writing, study, or simply sit and think.
